Marc Longjohn

Tansi!  My name is Marc, and I am Plains Cree from the Sturgeon Lake First Nation.  I am a father of three (3) children, and I currently reside in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  I received my B.A., majoring in Indian Studies in 2001 from the First Nations University of Canada (formerly known as the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College), University of Regina.

When i was 19 years old, I was re-introduced to singing traditional Pow wow and Round Dance music.  I have had the opportunity to sing with great groups, such as: Red Dog, War Scout, and Blackstone.   Currently we have formed our own group called the Young Scouts, which sings primarily Round Dance music.  Young Scouts has released four (4) albums to date, and are currently working on new projects.  Young Scouts has been nominated for the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards for three (3) of our albums in the category of "Best Hand Drum Album".  We won such award in 2003, with our album entitled, "Meet ya at the Round Dance".  Young Scouts has also performed for the 2005 Saskatchewan Centennial Gala for Her Majesty the Queen, Canada Day Celebrations in the Nation’s capital, and the Saskatchewan Labor Day Classic. Singing is a way of life for me.  It keeps me living a good life and trying to be the best man I can be.  My hobbies include: beach volleyball, laughing, running, and visiting with friends and talking about life.  "Music can heal the Soul".
